Elect Rob Zapple

What’s Important To Rob Zapple

We’ve been through some challenging times in the past three years; a global pandemic has cost too many lives, and disrupted our work, our schools, our daily lives. As your Commissioner, I’ve tried to focus on the things that can make life better for all of us.

I supported teacher pay increases, and voted against an unnecessary property tax increase. I worked to increase funding for our local non-profits, and doubled the number of pre-K classrooms. I succeeded in getting more transparency and a larger voice in how money from the sale of our hospital will be spent. I voted for land use policies that will help manage our growth, and fast-tracked the development of NHC’s newest 42 acre park, Hanover Pines Nature Park.

But as I listen to your concerns about moving forward, I know there’s still much to be done.

We need to do a better job managing growth, focusing on transportation and infrastructure needs.

We need to balance economic growth with the natural beauty of our environment and the quality of life we value. We need to work harder to preserve trees and green space.

The right to clean water is non-negotiable. We need to hold polluters accountable, strengthen regulations, and enforce the law.

We need to do more to support public education at all levels from Pre-K through community college, and do more to ensure all neighborhoods are safe neighborhoods.

I am troubled by the political divide at the federal, state, and local level; I believe we can all benefit if we work together to make New Hanover County the best it can be through cooperation, hard work, civil discourse, and strong leadership. This is why I’m running for re-election, and I look forward to representing you and making New Hanover County work for everyone.
